CANON INFORMATION: The year is 1956. Dwight D. Eisenhower is coming to the end of his first term and seeking reelection for a second. The Cold War is in full swing, and even though Joseph McCarthy's propaganda machine is beginning to wane in popularity, the Red Menace is still alive and well in the subconscious of the American people. The Korean War has only recently come to an end, but already tension is boiling over again in Vietnam. In the Middle East, Egyptian President Gamal Nasser has nationalized the Suez Canal project, leading to mounting unrest between Egypt and Britain, which America is determined to see resolved peacably.

On the home front (at least among the middle class white citizens), conservatism and traditional values are the law of the land. Elvis Presley is scandalizing parents nationwide, and gaining vast popularity with their teenage daughters. The economy is on the upswing, and middle class families everywhere are concerning themselves with keeping up with the Joneses, leading to a highly materialistic, as well as confomative, suburban white society. On the other hand, the Civil Rights movement has begun in earnest, ever since the Brown v. Board of Education hearing in 1954. Segregation is still near-universal, but change is coming, and racial tensions are mounting higher and higher than ever.
